The geophysical methods are considered as a part of exploration project, in which different geophysical techniques are used to obtain information about different parts of a mineral system. The concept of a mineral system is introduced in the Introduction lecture.\r\nIt discusses connection between physical properties of rocks and minerals and geophysical anomalies of different nature and scale. It provides an introduction to major types of geophysical observables (fields) and to geophysical instrumentation used in exploration geophysics (airborne, ground-based and borehole). It discusses spatial and temporal resolution, depth penetration and precision of these geophysical techniques. \r\nIt gives to the student an understanding what geophysical techniques are used at different stages of ore exploration, including province-scale and regional-scale geophysical surveys aiming at targeting mineral systems and detailed surveys aiming at imaging the selected target. It explains how to combine (integrate) various geophysical techniques for optimal 2-D and 3-D mapping of geological targets like metallic and non-metallic ore bodies, faults, fractured zones, overburden etc.","valueSv":""}},{"title":{"valueFi":"Suoritustavat","valueEn":"Study Methods","valueSv":""},"content":{"valueFi":"Examination\r\nLue lisää opintosuoritusten arvostelusta yliopiston verkkosivulta.","valueEn":"Lectures, independent analysis of papers and reports, essays about major subjects of the course","valueSv":""}},{"title":{"valueFi":"Toteutustavat","valueEn":"Teaching Methods","valueSv":""},"content":{"valueFi":"Järjestämistapa\r\nFace to face\r\n30 h lectures, data interpretation practicals.","valueEn":"Mode of delivery\r\nFace to face\r\n30 h lectures and data interpretation exercises.","valueSv":""}},{"title":{"valueFi":"Oppimateriaalit","valueEn":"Learning material","valueSv":""},"content":{"valueFi":"","valueEn":"
The students are provided with the teaching materials developed on the base of text books and research papers.
\r\n\r\n
For applied geophysics:
\r\n\r\n
1.Dentith, M., Mudge, S.T., 2014.
